The Story the Carols Tell — An Advent Journey at MCFC

There’s something about Christmas music that hits different.

You can be standing in line at Walmart, stuck in traffic on 32, or walking into church half-awake with a cup of coffee — and suddenly a familiar melody starts playing and your heart shifts a little.

We’ve sung these songs our entire lives.

We know the tunes by heart.

But have we ever stopped long enough to hear what they’re actually saying?

Because behind every Christmas carol is a story…

and behind every story is the Story — the gospel.

This Advent season at Morehead Community Fellowship, we’re stepping into a brand-new series called “The Story the Carols Tell.” Each week we’ll take one beloved carol and look at the Scripture and truth woven into its lyrics. These songs aren’t just seasonal background noise — they’re mini-sermons that proclaim hope, peace, joy, longing, humility, and the good news of Jesus breaking into our world.

Here’s where we’re heading:

Week 1 — O Come, O Come Emmanuel: Longing for Jesus

We begin where Advent begins: with longing, waiting, and the honest cry for God to step into the darkness.

Week 2 — O Little Town of Bethlehem: The Humility of God’s Answer

A small town. An unnoticed moment. And a God who loves to work in quiet, unexpected places.

Week 3 — Hark! The Herald Angels Sing: The Announcement of Good News

Heaven tears open the night sky with the greatest headline the world has ever heard.

Week 4 — O Holy Night: The Thrill of Hope

The weary world still rejoices — because Christ came to break chains, restore dignity, and bring true freedom.

Christmas “Eve” — Silent Night: The Peace of Christ Among Us

Not the absence of chaos, but the presence of the Prince of Peace.

Each Sunday will feel familiar, hopeful, and beautiful — but also fresh.

Because when we slow down and let Scripture speak through these carols, we begin to hear again what our hearts have needed all along.

This December, our prayer is simple:

Lord, let us hear the gospel again through the songs we thought we already knew.

Let every heart prepare Him room.

We would love for you, your family, and your friends to join us on this journey.

Invite someone who needs hope.

Bring someone who needs peace.

Stand beside someone who needs to know they’re not alone this season.

The Story the Carols Tell begins November 30th and continues every Sunday through our Christmas “Eve” service on December 21.
